We're looking for outgoing, enthusiastic people to train with us and lead events across our regions. We're hiring folks with availability 2–3 times per week on midweek evenings, weekends, and occasional daytimes.

All roles are part-time to start, with room to grow.

INSTRUCTOR

Bonsai Bar instructors lead the workshop. They teach core concepts and practices to the group and to individuals, demonstrating bonsai techniques throughout, and delegate tasks to their assistant so every table gets the attention it needs.

Instructors are confident public speakers with genuine enthusiasm for bonsai — our workshops are meant to get people pumped about the art form, and that energy starts up front. Instructors field questions throughout the workshop and have a strong command of bonsai fundamentals.

ASSISTANT

Bonsai Bar assistants help instructors teach and demonstrate core concepts. They handle setup, breakdown, and in-workshop needs — clearing used materials from place settings, helping participants with proper technique, and guiding aesthetic choices as participants design their trees.

Every instructor assists at several workshops before leading their first one. There's no better way to learn the workshop structure and bonsai basics.

Who are our instructors & assistants?

Bonsai Bar instructors and assistants deliver the Bonsai Bar mission: a supportive, positive, and creative experience for every workshop participant. Sound like you? Here’s what we look for:

  • A patient, joyful, energetic leader who’s comfortable speaking in front of a crowd
  • Excited to teach bonsai fundamentals and help participants shape and style their trees
  • A willingness to learn new skills and deliver content clearly and patiently to every participant
  • Creative experience — personal or professional — is highly valued; it helps convey key aesthetic and design concepts
  • Horticulture, bonsai, or teaching experience is a plus, but not required — we train you
  • Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs, open to regional travel, and available evenings and some weekends
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

Bonus: If you have room to store class trees & materials, that moves you toward the top of the list.

Your bonsai knowledge and experience will shape your timeline as a Bonsai Bar team member — new team members typically start as assistants until they’re comfortable with the workshop content and skillset. Beyond the availability above, we can flex around most schedules.
