Want to be an AWESOME Bonsai Bar Person?!

WHO ARE OUR TEACHERS & ASSISTANTS?

Bonsai Bar teachers and assistants promote and deliver the Bonsai Bar mission to create a supportive, positive, and creative experience for all event participants. They encourage and inspire the growth of a community of bonsai enthusiasts.

Our teachers & assistants convey fundamental knowledge and techniques to event participants. They cultivate an environment where participants are excited to create and socialize around the art of bonsai. They can appropriately assess participants’ trees and assist with aesthetic choices as participants design their bonsai during a class. Our teachers and assistants are patient, joyful, energetic and resourceful leaders who are comfortable speaking in front of crowds.

Prior experience with horticulture, bonsai, or teaching is not required, but highly welcome. Experience in a creative field, personally or professionally, is highly valued and will help convey key aesthetic and design concepts. Most important is a willingness to learn new skills, and a disposition to deliver course content in a clear, patient way to every participant.

Relevant knowledge and experience with bonsai will influence the timeline and trajectory as a Bonsai Bar team member. An initial appointment as an assistant may be required until a comfort with the course content and skillset is established.

Our teachers and assistants are comfortable lifting up to 50lbs, open to regional travel, and can work evenings and some weekends. Our schedule can be very flexible to fit most schedules.

TEACHER

Bonsai Bar teachers lead the way during a typical class. They convey core concepts and practices to participants as a group and individually. Teachers physically and verbally demonstrate bonsai practices for the duration of the class. Teachers also delegate needed tasks to the assigned assistant to assist the needs of each group.

Teachers should be comfortable public speakers who are enthusiastic and excited about bonsai! Our classes are meant to get people pumped up about bonsai, so keeping up a high level of enthusiasm is key to a successful class.

Bonsai Bar teachers address questions and concerns as needed by participants during a class. Our teachers must be able to demonstrate a strong command of bonsai concepts and fundamentals.

ASSISTANT

Bonsai Bar assistants help teachers convey and demonstrate core concepts to session participants.

Assistants tend to the set-up, break down, and in-session needs of the teacher and participants to enhance the quality of the instruction and experience. Assistants remove unnecessary and used materials from participants’ place settings, help deliver proper bonsai technique and practice, and aid session participants as they make aesthetic choices and design their trees.

We have all of our teachers assist in several classes prior to leading their first class because it helps you learn the class structure and bonsai basics like no other experience we know.
